Special thanks to Yvonne De Bourbon who's
administrative genius has allowed HMA to grow properly. To our great guest stars
Alex Acuna, Justo Almario, Ramon Banda, Tim Misica, Kim Richmond, Poncho Sanchez and Harry
Scorzo.
There is no other permanent orchestra like
the HMA Salsa/Jazz Orchestra. Always impressively clad, they bring excitement and
high energy to every performance. Their music is rich and captivating. The
Orchestra combines the best of traditional Big Band instrumentation using the standard
four trumpets, four trombones, five saxophones, piano, bass and drums with the addition of
the Latin rhythm section (timbales, congas, bongo and hand percussion) along with vocals
and special guests.
All the music on this recording is new,
original and shows the wide versatility of the Orchestra's hot California Salsa rhythm and
their great jazz improvisers.
This Orchestra is on fire and not waiting
to be discovered, rather they're crearting their own opportunities. They've played
major Jazz Festivals in the USA and have been awarded annual funding from the City of Los
Angeles and the State of California in support of their "School Tour" program.
They're taking their message to the public by designing, building, marketing and
sailing their own musical ship! They just keep moving forward.
HMA means Mispanic Musicians Association,
Inc., and the Orchestra is the Flagship of this non-profit organization which is made up
of musicians, friends and supporters, motivated to establish a networking system affording
musicians the opportunity to get to know each other and be creative together.
HMA has a dream to build the HMA Institute
of Music. It will provide the next step in professional music education. This
state of the art campus will serve underprivileged youth and our community. It will
focus on music disciplines;; performance and history of music and house the HMA Music
Archives that will be a resource center that documents the historic legacy of Latin
music's pioneers.
This Orchestra, under the co-leadership and
direction of Bobby Rodriguez and Paul Lopez, represents the highest quality of
professionalism and a wonderful role model for our youth.
I would like to thank every musician,
singer, writer and arranger on this recording for their high professional standards and
efforts in making California Salsa II the flagship recording for Discos
Dos Coronas.
Now sit back and enjoy the fantastic giant
California sound of HMA Salsa/Jazz Orchestra.
