Latin Beat Magazine describes Ilyana as "a sultry and exuberant songstress with enormous energy and vocal power, emoting fiery sensuality to the lyrics and music of her repertoire". Raised in Cuba and South America, Ilyana was classically trained. Moved by the Afro-Cuban and Caribbean rhythms of her homeland, she perfected a "tropical" vocal style that has made her extremely well known in the cabaret and music circles of San Francisco and Los Angeles. Her recent Australian Tour (with pianist/composer/producer Fred Ramirez) was additional proof of Ilyana's ability to capture world audiences.

Fred Ramirez, veteran musical director, has been described by Sergio Mendez as an "exhilarating pianist with a percussionist's technique on vibraharp". Ramirez provides the musical leadership for "Orquestra Tropicana" and teams with Ilyana on Mi Isla Tropical to form a potent writing/performing package.
