Larry Steen

Bassist/composer Larry Steen has played with Barry Manilow, Melissa Manchester, Engelbert Humperdinck, Mel Torme, Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder, Mose Allison, Brandon Fields, Eric Marienthal, Grant Guisseman, The Coasters, Louis Bellson, Bob Sheppard, Rique Pantoja and Prince Eyango.
Larry is a regular member of the Brandeis-Bardin International Klezmer Ensemble and Civic Light Opera of South Bay Cities and has toured as an orchestra bassist for the Broadway companies of Andrew Lloyd Webbers Music of the Night and 42nd Street.
In 1988, Steen won first place in the International Society of Bass Players Jazz Competition after graduating Magna Cum Laude in Studio Music and Jazz from the University of Miami and attending the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston. He continued his education at the California Institute of the Arts (CALARTS) receiving a Master of Fine Arts degree in Jazz and African-American music.
In making First Move, Larry Steen enlisted such LA jazz luminaries as Ernie Watts, Dave Weckl, Bill Cunliffe and Jeff Beal. The Yellowjackets' Jimmy Haslip is the executive producer.
