Mark Cutler has been excruciating close to rock stardom for nearly 20 years. He has managed to land two major label recording contracts, one with his early '80s group The Schemers (winners of the WBCN Rock 'n Roll Rumble) and again in the early '90s with The Raindogs. He has tasted the life of rock on the road having opened tours for Bob Dylan, Warren Zevon and Don Henley. And he's won over some of the most influential writers in rock. Mark's 1995 solo release Gasboy was rated Best Album of 1995 by Los Angles Times music critic Mike Boehm,
"Cutler, former front man of Boston's Raindogs, works in a classic Dylan/Petty mode; there's something fearsomely wild in his grim visions of frustration and loss."
Numerous critics from both coasts also rave over his latest release, Skylolo.
"Combining equal parts '60s jangle, power pop and roots rock - often in the same song - Boston-based singer/songwriter/guitarist Mark Cutler's second album is a nuclear-powered, time-machine tour of pregrunge rock styles. Cutler, a former member of the Raindogs, nods at the Beatles, the Kinks, Costello, Mellencamp and Springsteen along the way, but his lifts are so artful you could never accuse him of outright theft. And besides, you're having too much fun listening to him."
- Keven R. Convey
Boston Herald
"Fans knew Cutler's wasn't a get-rich-quick scheme before, during or after his days with Atlantic Records, and to those mindful enough to hear it, he's now offered a fresh batch focused on staring down evil apathy, nuclear family skirmishes and, of course, those recognizably Cutler-esque, economical examinations of roads taken and passed by."
- Michael Caito
The Providence Phoenix
"Cutler, former leader of the Raindogs, goes straight for the stripped-down heart with songs that are lived-in and sincere without being sentimental. Here, but for the roll of the record-company dice, go the Wallflowers and Counting Crows."
