Mayuto Correa serves as NETunes' Vice-Chairman, Chief Creative Officer and Ambassadeur D'Artiste.

A true legend of Latin Jazz, Mayuto Correa built his first set of congas when he was 12 years old and was immediately hired to play for the Rio de Janeiro-based big band Rapazes da Alvorada.  Through his teen years, he performed with top Brazilian artists including Paulo Moura, Cipo, Chiquinho, Ed Lincoln, Luiz Carlos Vinhas, Tamba Four, Bossa Sete, RC Sete, Maysa, Jorge Benjor, Jair Rodrigues and Bola Sete.

Mayuto Correa

In 1969, Mayuto moved to Los Angeles where his unique style and technical mastery were soon sought after by the most respected names in Latin Jazz, Jazz and pop music.   Now, some 35 years later, Mayuto Correa continues to be regarded amongst the best players in Jazz history.

He has often been called "the best conga player in the world" by numerous critics including Frank Wilson, Sherman Ferguson, John Levy, Earl Palmer and Sondra Oei.   John Dants has called Mayuto "the Coltrane of Congas" and Gabor Szabo touts Mayuto as "a fiery percussionist, full of lyricism and romantic beauty".   Billy Higgins calls Mayuto, "the best performer from Brazil since Carmen Miranda".

Mayuto and the Dream Team Big Band

Mayuto has appeared on numerous TV shows including The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, The Merv Griffin Show, The Midnight Special, The Nancy Wilson Show, The Harry Belafonte Show, Fantastico, Show do Mes, Sexta Super, Silvio Santos, Cidade Aberta, Aqui e Agora and Jacy Campos and played on the soundtracks of M.A.S.H., Baretta, Death Squad, Shaft, Chips, Trouble Man, Lost in the Stars, Supercops, Out To Sea, The Fall Guy and Cinderella Liberty.

Mayuto and Geniuses 2000

Mayuto has performed (on multiple occasions) at virtually all of the planet's foremost concert venues including Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, the Fillmore, Lincoln Center, the Apollo Theatre, the L.A. Coliseum, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Shrine Auditorium the Palladium and Rio's Canecao and Copacabana Palace.  He has been featured at every major jazz festival worldwide including The Playboy Jazz Festival, The Concord Jazz Festival, The Monterey Jazz Festival, The Newport Jazz Festival, The Kool Jazz Festival, Jazz at Drew, The Mexico Jazz Festival, The Berlin Jazz Festival and The Long Beach Jazz Festival.

He is featured in numerous texts and references including such seminal works as Le Dicionario Da Musica Polular Brasilerira by Ricardo Cravo Albim and The Jazz Encyclopedia by Leonard Feather and Ira Gitler with introduction by Quincy Jones.

A former record producer for ABC Dunhill Records, Mayuto is also an accomplished playwright and director having written and directed at the Orpheus; Shubert Theater; Sortilege; I.C.C.C. Theatre; Negra Elza; Carlos Gomes Theatre; Municipal Theatre; She Dances; U.S.C. Theater Fantastico;and TV Globo.  He has composed several hundred songs and written many scripts for film, television and stage including Zarina, Skid Row, Brazilian Wave, Ultimate Plan and Hector's Castle and served as musical and dramatic director for Brazilian superstars Elza Soares, Maria Betanea, Eliana Pitman and Cauby Peixoto.
